The property is located in the conservation area of Broadway Market in Hackney. It forms part of a terrace, and was in dire need of refurbishment. Our brief was to develop a scheme which extended but also separated the ancillary flat to create a self-contained living space independent from the commercial unit below.

Broadway Market: Extension in Conservation Area
To maximise the available space we arranged the circulation in a spine of glass along the boundary wall, allowing space to flow and creating views through the property, as well as allowing light to the lower quarters. Bare materials and exposed structures are emphasised by the new skylights, while the complementing original features and reclaimed materials create a canvas for the artist client.
