The site of Dexter Road Adventure Playground was one of the hotspots of the Brixton Riots. The houses lining the road were demolished during and after the riots.Their scale, position and typology inspired the design of the play structures.

Play opportunities and spatial experiences are based on interpretations of playable domestic elements and spaces. They range from sliding down banisters, a wobbly water tank, climbable pipe work and tumble down stairs to magical attic spaces with views over the neighbourhood. The structures also offer more conventional and easily recognisable play experiences like a swing, slide and zip wire.

Our model returns to the office worse for wear after its time on site with play contractor Adventure Playground Engineers.

The existing play shed was refurbished and a canopy added to provide sheltered external space. The area in front of the building will be landscaped to create a more welcoming, greener entrance to the site and a sense of presence within the neighbourhood.
