Queensbridge Primary School: Leafy Town

Queensbridge Primary School is attended by 480 children, who love it. They didn’t think much of their dull, uninspiring tarmac covered school yard though, nor did they like the air pollution that goes with inner-city learning. Green Queensbridge was created; a community project to transform the playground with an edible garden, a sensory bog garden, a woodland grove with sound play and seating and an exciting new play structure which was called Leafy Town.
To decide what Leafy Town should look like every child in every class worked on models and plans, pictures and collages to help make the play structure a reality. These designs were used as the source materials for a team of student representatives who together with us architects and built the design model of Leafy Town.
As a result of all these efforts the various parts of the transformation project were completed in stages over two years. The for the moment last element of the project, a quiet community garden, is currently nearing completion.
